What is ping?

Ping (latency) is the round-trip time for data between you and a server, measured in milliseconds. In games, low ping means your shots register when you click; high ping means you’re playing in the past — enemies see you before you see them.

What this test measures

This test measures latency to GamesToday’s own server with five quick requests. Your in-game ping will differ by server location, but this gives you a clean baseline for your connection quality right now.

Ping Tester FAQs

Why does my ping spike sometimes?

Spikes usually come from Wi-Fi interference, someone else streaming/downloading, or ISP congestion in the evening. A wired connection fixes most of it.

Is 0 ping possible?

No — even the best connections have 5–15 ms of physical latency. Anyone showing 0 ping is seeing a rounded or cached number.

Does ping affect single-player games?

No. Ping only matters when your inputs travel to a remote server — single-player and offline games are unaffected.

Why is my game ping higher than this test?

Game servers may be farther away than our server, and games add their own processing on top. Test against your game’s server region for the real number.
